Google has introduced a new Tap-to-Share feature for Android, making it easier to exchange contact information, photos, videos, website links and other content between compatible devices. The feature is being added to Google’s existing Quick Share system and began rolling out on August 12, 2026.
How Tap-to-Share Works
Instead of manually searching through nearby devices in the Quick Share menu, users can bring compatible Android phones close together to start the sharing process.
For contact information, users can bring the phones together directly. For photos, videos and other content, users first open Android’s Share Sheet and then bring the devices close to complete the transfer.
The feature uses NFC and proximity technology to make the interaction easier and more intuitive.
Which Android Phones Support It?
Google has started the rollout with Pixel 6 and newer Pixel phones. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 are also scheduled to receive the feature soon.
Google says it plans to expand Tap-to-Share support to more Android devices by the end of 2026.
What Can You Share?
The new feature supports several types of content, including:
Contact information
Photos
Videos
Website links
Location information
Other supported files
Google's existing Quick Share system is already designed for sending files between nearby devices, while Tap-to-Share makes starting that process considerably simpler.
Why This Matters
Quick Share has traditionally required users to select a nearby device from the sharing interface. Tap-to-Share reduces that interaction by allowing compatible phones to recognize the intended nearby device through physical proximity.
For users frequently sharing photos, contact details or links with people nearby, this could make Android's sharing experience faster and less complicated.
The Bottom Line
Google's Tap-to-Share update gives Quick Share a more convenient way to exchange content between Android phones. The rollout currently starts with Pixel 6 and newer devices, while additional Samsung phones and wider Android support are expected later.
As Google expands the feature across the Android ecosystem, sharing something with another Android user could become as simple as bringing two phones together.
