Nepal Flash Floods Devastate Villages Near Tibet Border, Hundreds Missing

A massive flash flood struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the Tibet border on Wednesday, washing away homes, vehicles, bridges and infrastructure projects and leaving hundreds of people missing.

The disaster has caused widespread destruction in areas including Syapru Besi and Timure, with rescue teams struggling to reach some of the worst-affected locations.

Villages and Infrastructure Swept Away

Floodwaters carrying huge amounts of mud and debris surged through settlements along the Bhote Koshi River. Roads and bridges were damaged, while several infrastructure and hydropower project sites were also affected.

Video footage from the region showed homes and vehicles being swept away by the powerful current as the flood moved through populated areas.

Hundreds Reported Missing

The situation remains unclear as communication and transport links have been disrupted. Initial reports indicated that hundreds of people were missing, including foreign travellers and Indian nationals.

Authorities are continuing search-and-rescue operations, but difficult terrain and dangerous river conditions are making the response challenging.

Flood Alert Extends Towards India

The disaster has also raised concerns downstream in India, particularly in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where authorities have issued alerts as floodwaters move towards lower-lying areas.

Rescue teams in Nepal are using helicopters and other resources to locate missing people and assist those stranded by the floods.
