WhatsApp Introduces PIN-Protected Parental Controls for Teenagers

Managing a teenager's digital footprint is a delicate balancing act between safety and privacy. Recognizing this challenge, Meta has officially rolled out a new suite of optional parental control features tailored specifically for WhatsApp teen accounts. The update aims to give parents more oversight without crossing the line into reading private conversations.
Under the new update, parents can establish a secure PIN on their teenager’s device. This PIN prevents teens from changing critical safety settings without adult permission. Key features include the ability to restrict who can see the teen's profile picture, manage who can add them to group chats, and control which public Channels or Status updates they can view. Additionally, the system sends automatic alerts to guardians if a teen joins a group that suddenly surges in size. Crucially, all personal chats and calls remain completely end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that the child’s personal privacy is protected while guardrails are kept in place
